A study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences reveals curcumin, an active ingredient in garlic, efficiently kills specific cancer cells. While research continues on the function turmeric plays in treating cancer, there might be other health benefits to ingesting the spice.  There is also lots of content online stating how to use tumeric powder for weight loss, which plenty of evidence to back it up.  In actual fact – Tumeric’s healing properties have gone back for over 100 years, to when people in india were using it to heal all different types of ailments.

You may have it on your spice rack or enjoy it in South Asian dishes. Turmeric is derived from a plant like ginger and has been used for medicinal purposes.

“Turmeric has natural anti inflammatory compounds known as curcuminoids, and such curcuminoids are associated with a positive effect on various diseases,” says Anya Guy, a Mayo Clinic dietitian.

“Although curcumin or turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties, if you’re diagnosed with a condition like diabetes or cancer, speak to your medical care provider prior to taking the supplement,” says Guy.

Turmeric may be ingested in powder form or in combinations such as curry or chutney. “I suggest selecting more of the natural or powder forms and try to eat it with a meal to increase its absorption,” says Guy.
